Here's the factoid about the new Corporate Average Fuel Economy standard that amuses/frustrates me the most: The CAFE target has been 27.5 mpg for ages. Unfortunately, the test used for finding fuel economy numbers has always been optimistic. For a 2008 vehicle, that 27.5 mpg rating translates to 21 mpg. ...another reason that a general, uniform carbon "tax" might work better than scattershot standards like this one?
