To some, this will mean something. But to others, it won't.

Dave Bartlett is moving to Yellowknife to work for CBC as an associate producer on the morning show (which means he'll be working with Erin, as she produces that show)!

This is:
a) surprising
b) exciting, as I like Dave and am looking forward to hanging out with him.

Cool! Yellowknife is just the place to be for j-school grads.

I lived there for 13 years, then went to j-school. Apparently the wrong order of things.

Ah, but by growing up here you know what the Yellowknifer is truly like -- so you wouldn't want to move back up here to start working there (which seems to be what almost everybody does. that paper should get a government grant for paying people's way to move north)

Especially King's grads. There's me, Erin, Dave, Jasmine, Harmen Meinders (also Jasmine's boyfriend), Dorothy Westerman, Megan Holsapple...and a slew of others. Too many to keep track of, really. It's quite strange how King's grads keep ending up here.

well that is fun news. good for dave. the distance between him and tar ponds will be good for the soul.

and funny, because today i was talking with a TA about how one cannot really find j-work in halifax and she was telling me all about how many j-jobs could be found when she lived up north and i was tempted to call home and say, "screw this halifax noise. let's go north. way north. and then i can finally be a journalist."

besides that...i always thought dave was better at production than at reporting...but don't tell him that!

...and good for the lungs, immune system, and a variety of other things...

...but when it's -52 with the wind chill, and there are only 4 hours of "daylight" I start to wonder if it's really worth living here. (in the end, the answer has still always been yes. but it isn't always easy.)
