Back from Cowtown. Was in Calgary on Wed/Thurs/Fri of last week, attending an oil & gas conference. It was...interesting...kind of...
Can't say I'm a big fan of the city (sorry rhiacat). I found it sort of stuff. And dull. Not really what I pictured Calgary to be like ( Read more... )

calgary is VERY boring when you first get there, and it still is very corporate and sleek in most parts. However, after a few weeks, I realized that it houses two really brilliant communities: Inglewood and Kensington. Very laidback compact communities. And the walks along the Bow are nice. Aside from that, it is freaking dead, and a sprawling mass of slick, new homes and huge monster vehicles. And barely anyone walks around to get places. Drive, drive, drive.

I thought it very strange when an acquaintance was telling me about how he lived in the "Signature" subdivision...where the streets are:
- Signature Lane
- Signature Drive
- Signature Crescent
- Signature Avenue
...and so forth.

I couldn't imagine how many times I'd get lost trying to drive around that place (or the difficulty in giving people directions to your house if you lived there....)

I'll have to try to find those places when I'm next there. It was a whirlwind trip (2 nights), so I didn't get to explore much.

Thank god, someone finally sees what Calgary is. I've lived there for a year and I find that everyday is like pulling teeth. I have yet to meet anyone I can really connect and have fun with. I have this dream of moving to Yellowknife when I'm done school. For some reason the NWT seems more interesting and life giving than cowtown. Do you like it there? and have you always lived there?
