This is going to break me clean in two
This is going to bring me close to you
She is everything I need that I never knew I wanted
She is everything I want that I never knew I needed
It's all up in the air and we stand still to see what comes down
I don't know where it is, I don't know when, but I want you around
When it falls into place with you and I, we go from if to when
Your side and mine are both behind it's indication
This is going to bring me clarity
This'll take the heart right out of me
There was a certain undeniable irony to this situation, Mulder realized : Scully thought that this time he was actually certifiably crazy, whereas for the first time in his life, he felt remarkably wholly lucid. She had all but marched him straight up to his room, and ordered him to stay in it, as if bedrest might cure whatever level of delirium could make someone hallucinate talking to a camel. He hadn't fought her : doctor's orders, after all. And he needed a moment to regroup, so to speak.
Because though he had a lot to think about - Scully was alive, she was right across the hall, and he'd met a camel who could communicate only to people who believed in him - his mind kept drifting back to one bittersweet fact: Scully had kissed him back.
It was bittersweet for more reasons than he could count. The sweet were obvious enough. Having her torn out of his life so brutally, even temporarily, had been akin to suddenly being unable to sense the rush of his own heartbeat through his veins. Even now, though it was probably just his imagination, he was certain he could hear her reassuring breathing from across the hall. Sense her there, practically.
The bitter? The news that she'd been killed to hurt him was an all too familiar slap. If he really loved her (and that was it, wasn't it? He really did love her. It wasn't something to doubt anymore), he wouldn't put her in that position again.
So he had to focus his energy elsewhere. Keep her safe.
There was a knock on his door, then, and he was both disappointed and relieved when it wasn't Scully.
