What? Seriously? Why? There's already a big shopping centre going into Academy St (where the Examiner office was) by the Mahon Point guy. Now I'm all for more shops in Cork, believe me, but even I cannot bear the loss of the Bodega for the sake of a few shoes shops. Given the rest of the area, unless they seriously improve the whole place, it'll be a fairly low rent shopping centre. (Hmm, might get New Look...) The better stores will go into Academy St.

Heh, it's worse than that. There's a new shopping center that will be finished later this year directly across the road where the Coal Quay Center used to be

So Cork will be full of shops with no bars and not so many restaurants? I look forward to a town deserted after 6pm. Great. I've seen that in cities in the UK including areas of Belfast - it's really strange, there's no-one around after 7. Cork being so small, there will be pockets of activity (around the fountain with the Bróg/Slate axis), maybe French Church St (restaurants), Washington St and that'll be it I guess. Lame.

Still, H&M, Zara, TK Maxx, Habitat are all lining up for these locations so I guess you'll have plenty of stuff to look at while you sit at home with nowhere to go.
