The lances are made out of wood - the intent is to be entertaining, not kill someone. The armor, however, is real - hence the huge horses - and that's why the wood splits.

Well I would have written more, but there are certain people who won't read anything I write if it's more than half a page.

Besides, who wants to read about that?
Me enjoying myself isn't nearly as interesting to read as motorcycle jousting and puke-inducing poly tails!
