In Character Information
Name: Seta Souji
Age: 16
Birthday: 10 July 1994
Game/Series: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4
Appearance:
Just your average high schooler with just a touch of class, the main things that probably stand out for Souji is his silver-ish hair that's shaped like a bowl cut with fringes swept to the side and his gray eyes. All natural of course. Average height with a lithe figure for his age, nothing else in particular stands out for him, though on one account, a person commented that he is rather handsome.
His voice, not entirely mature but just deep and strong enough to signify that he is his age of 17 years.
But as far as clothes go, Souji prefers the darker tones with a splash of a ligher color. Mostly black and blues while throwing in white or light gray to set the balance. Casual but not too formal, occasionally showing a little punk-ish side, he likes to be comfortable in anything he wears. He might throw in an accessory, like a belt (or two for his sword) but he doesn't like to have things too complicated or else it'll just hinder him. He still has the glasses that Teddie had made for him and the others so that they could see through the fog.
Personality:
Souji's a little bit more mature for his age, since his parents weren't exactly around at all times while he was growing up but only just. He's still a teenager after all, so is susceptible to all things that any other teenage boy would go through. Even so, he does try to think before he speaks, especially if the situation would make things favorable for him. A calm thinker, but not too analytical, he'll make the best possible judgment in the situation, especially if it's a dire one. Still, he's pretty open and cool about anything, curious when something piques his interest, and would state his opinion on things or be agreeable if it was to his liking. A real down to earth kind of guy with only things entirely unexpected or really surprising shaking his cool attitude.
To the general public, Souji's a fairly amicable type of guy. He's able to get along with just about any body, but not on a real personal level. Because of having to transfer and move around a lot, he wasn't given the chance to make any real friends, just acquaintances that he kept at a distance. About his personal life, he usually keeps to himself, not seeing the point in sharing on that level when he knows that the supposed friendships wouldn't last any longer than his stay. But he puts up a friendly, polite face to anyone who talks to him.
And if people just so happen to manage to get closer to Souji, he's much more open about himself, more expressive. He'll show his concern to a friend in need and would do his best to give out advice if that was what said friend needed. He wouldn't cut corners with his words, almost to the point of being blunt. Hanging out, lending an ear, or even silent company, Souji would spend the time with a person who needed him. Amongst real friends, he doesn't see the need to restrain himself, knowing that the bonds he made with said friends wouldn't be severed so easily as with anyone else.
All in all, Souji's a calm collected type with a decent head on his shoulders and has a caring side that's shown to those he considers his true friends.
Backstory:
For the most part, Souji grew up as normal as any kid would. Two parents, went to school, a roof over his head. However, even such simplicity came with complications.
His parents were always working, hardly around, and wherever worked needed them, they would follow. Moving around from town to town, the family never really settled in one place for extended periods of time. And it was because of this that Souji never made lasting friends at school wherever they move to for the time being or was really close to his parents for that matter. For the most part, he would keep people at an arm's length away, since he knew that it was only a matter of time before he would leave again.
Then came his second year in high school when his parents had to go abroad for their work, thus sending him to the countryside to live with his uncle and young cousin in Inaba for a year. Coming from the big city, he wondered what the countryside could really offer him in terms of interest. He never would have believed that it would turn out to be the most memorable year of his life so far.
It started on the train ride to Inaba, falling asleep and having an odd dream with an equally odd encounter with Igor and his assistant Margaret. Igor had foreshadowed his future, reading possible outcomes of the upcoming year through fortune telling with tarot cards. At first, Souji hadn't been sure if he should take the man's words to heart, putting it in the back of his mind in favor of greeting his uncle Dojima and cousin Nanako when he arrived at the station. However, Igor's words couldn't be ignored for long when he heard about the Midnight Channel from classmates and tried it out, only to be able to stick his hand through the screen.
A series of events occurred, starting with the death of a TV announcer and one of the third year students at Souji's high school - who incidentally was close to one of his friends - to kidnappings of other schoolmates and being able to enter the television and finding a completely new world inside.
Fighting Shadows, saving people, establishing bonds with friends (only to become even closer), finding the reason why Souji (and incidentally others) gained such powers from the start instead of facing himself like the others -- it all seemed a little surreal to believe when all of it was said and done. With Souji leading the group of eight who all vowed to find the one responsible for the killings, kidnappings... to find the truth, they managed to find the true culprit and finally bring peace back to Inaba and the world inside the TV the day before he had to leave the small town and head back to the big city.
For Souji, it had started as a dream and in his opinion, ending like one, albeit a little sadly. He didn't regret any of it though and would hold the memories and friends he'd gained from that year close. They were irreplaceable.
Canon Standing:
After the true ending.
Anything Else?:
- Souji likes to read. A lot. Sometimes during his free time when he doesn't feel like studying or working, he would pick up the next available book and read it. Helps to improve some attributes.
- He kind of has a complex, in where he wants to help people where he can. Possibly remnants of his adventures in Inaba and being responsible for the investigation group, but he doesn't want things to go into the "too late" end of the pool.
- For combat, he mostly uses two-handed swords. And though he has a large number of personae at his disposal, his main one is Izanagi no Okami, which has numerous elements at its disposal.
- Souji can also play the trumpet, though he's no expert. Just the basics, really, so he'll practice on occasion.
