Nazca hadn't been involved in any direct theft of any size in a long, long time. Her father had made sure she had the fundamentals of course, but more useful skills came from the outings in which she'd demanded Locke take her along. Sometimes they went with Jean, but more often without, and despite the danger facing Baedal, a part of her is delighted to find her old skills aren't failing her.
The hardest part is finding the pearls to take. But she's better for having something to do.
And she is fiercely trying to ignore the dream she had and what it meant. That would do her no good, and a mission from the gods was the priority.
As of right now, Alec had two concerns. One, tracking down pearls, because this? This he was good at, and two, he really hoped he got to keep the cool toys that came with this one. A skeleton key was like a thief's wet dream, and add on to the fact that this came with immunity and a little bit of cloak and dagger? Alec could almost say that he was in Heaven.
Almost.
Pearls were still hard to find, and people still didn't take too well to people breaking into their homes. It's days like this that Alec was grateful that he still had his X5 bonus features. It came in handy when you were forced to jump out a two story window to get away from an angry local with magic skills.
Which, to that point, this would be Alec, landing rather gracefully in front of Nazca, and flashing her a smile, before reaching for her wrist. "Might want to get out from under the window."
She reacted before she thought, getting out of the way as he suggested and also yanking her hand away. "I suppose there's nothing worthwhile in there now, then," she observes, annoyed.
There was a blast of magic out of the window, and she jumped despite herself.
"Sorry," he said as his eyes wandered up to the source of the magic, looking to see if they were still there. "But I'm sure there are plenty of pearls around here for the taking."
"Very comforting." She looks up too - magic makes her tense. "Please don't tell me you meant to be seen." She'd known men like that, who enjoyed a chase more than job done smartly.
"Psh. Absolutely not," he sighed. He waited for the blasts of magic to fade, before turning and starting to move on to the next house. "I'm still adjusting to the whole magical security system thing. Magic isn't exactly big where I'm from."
He straightened and turned to face her, before holding up a finger as he gave her a bit of a look. "I am not sloppy. My world is all science and sensors, and things that I can beat. I'm learning. There's a difference."
And then he flashed her a smile, and held up the pouch he grabbed from the room. "But I still got the pearls. Where I'm from, that counts for something."
She lifts her hands, palms out, with a bit of an indulgent smile. "Gods forfend I should criticize." She starts moving away from the alarm. "Maybe thievery is different in your world as well."
Moving away from the alarm is a very good idea, and Alec is joining her in that. He shrugs at the statement. He can take a little criticism, but he's trying that whole standing up for himself thing.
It's new. He's still testing it out.
"I think thievery is different in every world. Every world has different trap doors to get around."
His mouth opens a little, as though he's looking to defend himself again, but then he shakes his head and sighs. "Alright. I kinda deserved that one, but I also think that learning what you're up against is still adapting. Even if you do it in a somewhat clumsy way."
"Fair. We all work within our gifts." After all, it's not as if Nazca has done much work herself, recently; she leaves that to the rank and file. "Have you been having much success?"
"Well, maybe they were hiding them better before they worried about getting sick. Or maybe they're scared off 'em, who knows?" While it was more pleasing to attribute success to skill, he was right - it hadn't been all that hard.

"Sloppy," she points out, still slightly out of temper. "An alarm is an alarm, magic or not."
