Okay, so I thought I totally commented on this, but alas it was apparently all in my head!

My thoughts on this are two-old. 1) I'm happy that someone else sort of "famous" has been diagnosed so that way it brings the disease to the spotlight a little. 2) I'm disappointed that the article says NOTHING about mobility issues. That is one of the biggest issues for most people with MS. And I also didn't like how it's being promoted in a way that makes it seem like someone can "overcome" this disease. It's frickin' uncurable people!

Just like Mitt Romney's wife Ann. They both talk about MS in a way that makes it seem like it's no big deal and the media talks about it in past tense. That she has "beaten" it somehow because she can ride horses again and that she is a "survivor".

Great exposure, but not very truthful about what it really is. :/

Yes. The 'overcoming' response is so understandable and it comes up so often. It's in the news reports which come out every week or two, announcing that 'scientists offer new hope to MS victims' (I'm a real scientist, so I can always see straight through the weak 'evidence' that gets trumpeted as 'the answer at last!') The 'overcoming' response comes up too in the exhortations to 'positive thinking' from well-meaning friends and acquaintances. I know it's supposed to encourage me but I've had to learn how to make my face look polite while changing the subject. I find it more helpful when people offer practical help, like carrying my hot drink, or when they hire me for the paid work I can still do.
