His favorite color is purple.
He sees it in his closet. He sees it in his school. He sees it intermingled with the clouds at sunset. He sees it in his eyes. His beautiful eyes. Jungkook never knew an eye had the capacity to hold such an exquisite color much like it, yet small specks of a dark shade sprinkle their pigments into the irises of the boy in the playground, and the boy in the parking lot, and the boy in the lecture hall. Like a painter’s palette, that was how he first described them, Taehyung’s eyes. Like an artist was working on a masterpiece and accidentally dripped some of the color into his work, creating the perfect accident.
He sees purple in the pigmentation of Taehyung’s face after class. Classmates decided he needed to become their new canvas of ridicule. But no matter how painful the mark, Jungkook still finds beauty in him as he heals.
He sees purple in the ball point pen in Taehyung’s right hand, how it smudges onto its side like a faded tattoo. Jungkook smiles as he reads the note in his favorite color.
He sees it in the promise ring Taehyung holds out to him. The color glistens in the sunlight that is no match for the brightness of Taehyung’s eyes. He beautiful speckled eyes.
He sees it in the news broadcast late at night. Taehyung’s picture complements the shade with his beaming smile. But Jungkook cannot bring himself to feel happiness.
He sees purple in the flowers surrounding his grave. The dirt stains his dress pants, but he doesn’t seem to care. All he sees is the pigment of the petals and remembers those cheerful eyes that held his heart.
