No, not here - we had to go up a bit to find it!
We had a wee run up the valley to St Lary with friends Graham, Ann-Marie and Pam. Noel refused (chicken!) to go up to the ski slopes as the cable car is too scary for him .....nuff said......
Slightly milky photo because of the perspex windows but that's the town at the foot of the hill - this 'gondola' is never more than about 15 feet above the ground so it's not scary at all...
Pam, however, is not good with heights ....she was not happy and refused to admire the view!
From the gondolas you step out onto the slopes - literally! There are about 55 pistes but also sledge-runs for kids, snowshoe walks and cross country ski-ing - I sound like a tourist brochure!
There's a second 'town' up here which is full of life in the ski season and during the summer holidays but deserted for the off seasons. Hundreds of appartments with spectacular views and dozens of bars, restaurants, shops, etc.
The Gendarme helicopter was patrolling the skies - keeping an eye out for the twits who go off piste - the avalanche risk here is high!
Pam didn't really enjoy the views - she had just realised she still had to down in the gondola again!
Back to the main town and we fortified ourselves with coffee and chips then stopped off to buy wine. They had driven down from southern England and intended to go back with a boot-full of wine - I think the final tally was about 65 litres!!
I love going up the mountains and the gondolas and cable car are definitely better than climbing up on foot!
