I'm not sure of the origins of this tale. I was made aware about this practice from music (the 1st Nation Of Ulysses album) & film (Seven). I think that gloves would have been an easier solution. But that's just my opinion.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Gloves, right? More realistic than slicing up your fingers. What kind of dad tells his 8 year old about cutting off fingerprints? A cool dad or a scary dad?
It's so weird the things I remember (and which things I decided to remember as fact).
