What if all the machines stopped??

So far, I'm finding that much of the reading that we've done the past few class sessions are dealing with the beginning of machines and the possible usefulness and consequential dependence on them. I feel in a huge way these authors were quite ahead of their time, perhaps looking like pure fools to others of their generations. Wouldn't they get a ( Read more... )

I believe that we are becoming to dependent on machines. For the most part, they make things easier, but they also make things more complex in the process. Nothing can take the place of human to human interaction. I feel as if a relationship is complicated over the internet and I find myself being skeptical of the person in which I am holding a conversation. I feel like the basic relationships a person builds in his or her life should start from actual human interaction. That seems to me like the uncomplex, natural way to meet someone who could become a friend.

I totally agree with the thought that we do put a high value on computers. To best explain what I'm thinking I will use the video game World Of Warcraft as an example. The gameplay allows people to communicate and work together to finish missions. In extreme cases, I've heard about virtual marriages that includes a human and an elf. It's gotten worse in recent times, my friends are able to order pizza online whenever they are playing an online game.

Funny thing is I think a lot of us cannot communicate well in person. If you ever meet me in person, I'm also timid and make small comments. Computers allow us to say things or perform certain actions without the thoughts of extreme consequences, I have no problem in typing my thoughts. The computer allows us to time to think about what we want to say. Thanks for reading this comment
