Well, something I can get my teeth into...... Did you know and is it fair...... The Premier of NSW has given, free of charge, the use of over 400 public school halls for the use of 'pilgrims' coming to the Popes youth gathering in 2008. The thing is, these 'pilgrims' are given the halls free of charge, portable showers (paid for by your tax dollar ( Read more... )

Indeed, why can't they use hotels! Our school has to accommodate 44 persons, the local high school 80 something - multiply those - thousands of 'pilgrims' they are called.

Not enough hotels (tens of thousands I would think!) and because Mr Premier is a catholic!

'Mundania', I suggest you write to SMH.com.au about thid. I assume they will be interested about it. Well, I hope so.

I think, the people need to know where their taxpayers dollars go.

Fuck yeah, opinions! I love this shit.

People need to be informed about this stuff. Write it up like you have here, send it to newspapers, online blogs (like the ones SMH has), and get the word out.

This is the shit the internet is SUPPOSED to be for: the free exchange of ideas.

This is a shining example of the kind of stupidity that seems to be rampant across both major parties... Just makes you go "What the hell were they thinking??"

On the subject of politics, here are some interesting but only vaguely relevant election-related links I've come across lately:
- Google trialling their election coverage tools. Includes party YouTube channels, Google search stats for parties/candidates, and a Google Maps overlay showing the electorates and their %s.

- Election poll & discussion thread on Whirlpool (pt. 15):

Real Catholic Pilgrims go to see the Pope in Italy! Why are we paying for half-rate, lazy pilgrims to stay here? I don't see anyone donating school halls for gaming conventions, and I'm pretty sure they didn't get school halls for when the Dalli Lama visited! Hmph!

Yeah, lets have a pilgrimage to Sydney in honour of the God of LAN Parties and demand a hall be provided, with appropriate networking hardware & security staff. Probably some showers too.

To hell with it, with that much money to waste and only one hall, they can provide the damn PCs too. Awesome.

Fuck, let's forget the showers and grab a couple of bar fridges instead.
