Whew.

It's actually been a remarkable day on Social Media. I ended up having a pretty cool and thoughtful conversation with an o-fic author I adore and a fanfic author I adore, so that was freaking awesome.

In between spates of work and doggo wrangling, got a clean and not wholly terrible take of the virtul choir piece and have uploaded it to the site. ( Read more... )

Dare I ask... how will this hymn sing work?

Via zoom, and it worked really well! A couple of days ago, an email went out from the church with a link to Hymnary.org asking people to submit their top three Eastertide/Ascension hymns (174-223) to the music director via email and also included the zoom link to participate.

Tonight, the pastor was host and screen shared the sheet music and muted everybody except the music director and his wife, who's the other soprano section leader, as they led the hymns. In between hymns, the pastor would unmute us all and the music director chatted with everyone, answered questions, and talked about the next hymn, what hymns are v. tunes, the history of any given hymn, and it was just lovely.

Yeah, I was sitting alone in the office singing to myself, but it still felt like I was singing with my friend, y'know?

Hooray! I love it. We’ve done a few things like this via Zoom, and I do think it helps when the people leading the music are a pair or more.

A few of the choirs I sing with are chatting about Bach chorale picnics in the future, when we’re a bit more relaxed in June?

Yeah, unless you can play and sing really well at the same time, it's hard. I know some who can, it's definitely nicer to divvy up the work.

I only know a couple of folks who have been pushing back against the ACDA/NATS webinar and trying to get people to gather for distant singing, but there hasn't been much interest because we're not convinced it's safe, and a whole bunch of folks have underlying health conditions. An Italian early music ensemble (I can't remember their name but it has a year in the title) recently Facebook lived a performance with choir and orchestra and conductor all in facemasks but all quite close to each other, and people were all "Okay, y'all sound great but what in nine hells do you think you're doing?"

Oh man, I do miss singing chorales. And Bach did so many good ones.

*hugs* I'm so glad! Yeah, I had a hard day earlier this week, and removing things from my to-do list has only made me cheerier. It helps to have things to look forward to, even if it's just me singing alone in the office on the surface. In context, it was a visit with people I love sharing music that's beautiful and meaningful to all. I hope you and yours are well! *more hugs*

It was a good day yesterday. Today will be good if I can finish this effing lyrics draft. I have 3 lines and I'm not even sure one is grammatically correct. *headdesk*
