So despite fiddling with it for an embarassingly long time, my Potterwatch bandmates and I finally got our sea shanty to where we wanted it and submitted it for a compliation album, masterminded by wizard rocker Totally Knuts

Thank you!!! I'm so happy you liked it! I remember having a bit of angst over the chorus, because traditionally, work shanty choruses/refrains have fewer, simpler words, (hey ho, up she rises, heave ho, haul away boys, etc.) and the melody we decided on was the note-iest part of the tune. BUT it was so good and so catchy, as soon as I figured out how I wanted the rhyme scheme to work, it got stuck in all of our heads, which I figured was a good sign :D
*blushes and grins* Thank you! I think we may have over-Ravenclawed the "wizard rock sea shanty" brief, since most of the others were fairly simple arrangement-wise and largely stuck to a more traditional shanty sound (and in some cases, used existing shanty tunes). We tipped our hats to traditionally shanties (and the film soundtrack) with the opening, but hewed more closely to the "rock" side. And while the a cappella polyphonic outro was my idea, it turned out SO MUCH COOLER than I'd imagined because of what J did production-wise and A's idea to put Potterwatch-y radio static on either side of it, which made it feel like it was floating in from another time as the ship sailed off into the distance...
A volume 2 for this shanty compilation is in the works for August-ish, with a focus on drinking/tavern/pub songs, so we're attempting something along those lines, too! And a bunch of other songs, because apparently we're all trying to get as much done before live performances go back to normal :D
