I wanted a Kindle for my birthday

Feb 01, 2010 16:27

I finally decided I want an e-reader. Since I think the ipad is a ridiculous contraption, I have been looking at the Sony e-reader and the Kindle. Tambyrd has a Sony e-reader and it is really nice, but I had decided I would like the Kindle better ( Read more... )

I have been thinking of writing you two for a while because either you haven't been posting or you haven't been posting when I was paying attention, and I was somewhat worried.

So, YAY!

Okay, aside from that, I don't have worthwhile thoughts. I think both sides in this are being stupid, and am on neither side, but the Amazon side is the worser and goes beyond stupid into evil territory.

So if you can, wait till they cave so you will not be reinforcing the awful decision they initially went with.

Of course, they may never cave, and then there's a problem, as they' are the only easy source for a lot of stuff, and the 500 factors that might come into play after the orchid licks the rainbow.

So, I have no real advice.

But good to see you and to know that you two are both doing well. =)

Hi! Yeah I have been neglectful of my blog. :-( I plan to do better.

I buy a lot from Amazon but I am having to rethink that. Man I HATE it when a company I used to like goes bad.

If this were the first Amazon.fail, that would be one thing. But it's not. It's the fourth. The gay.Amazon.fail last spring pissed me off pretty badly, but this one was the last straw. I'm not going to buy from Amazon anymore, and I need to get into my site and see if I have any links so I can them to Mysterious Galaxy or something. (I know I never put links to my own books on Amazon, but I might've done to others.)

The fact that they'll actually take things OFF your Kindle (like they did this weekend with sample Macmillan chapters and they did with the 1984.Amazon.fail) would be enough to keep me from buying one. I'm glad I invested in the Sony. I don't buy Sony-platform e-books, either...only generic-format e-books.

I think I might just get a Sony, too. And I think I'm going to have to stop buying from them, which kind of sucks because Amazon UK is how I get my Hobb books early! Sigh. Well maybe when her next one comes out you can direct me to another UK place to buy it. Not only do I like to read the book ASAP but I also like the Brit covers better.

The big boxes are:

Waterstones: http://www.waterstones.com/waterstonesweb/

WH Smith: http://www.whsmith.co.uk/

If you want to go with an indie (which is what I'll probably do), there's:

Forbidden Planet (where Robin signed last year): http://forbiddenplanet.com/

I'm not buying from Amazon either, but I quit because I found this site http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/ - they deliver free everywhere in the world.

And I don't want Kindle anymore, either.

Amazon has proved time and time again that bigger is not better. They not only don't care about publishers or writers, it's quite clear from this latest blunder that they don't give a damn about their customers either. They want to be WalMart and they're doing a good job of mirroring the ills of that company. Kindle has way too many strings attached. Look elsewhere for your e-reader.
