All true-

--*And* fasting can be in preparation for a Feast.

Both in the 'compare and contrast' modern way, and, in a more marginal world, by *Physically saving up food to be eaten at the festival*
Setting aside the best parts (in pickles, aged cheese, cakes/cookies,etc) making all this great food, *but Not eating it*

Frugality AND Generosity; it takes Both to make up the Virtue-tree
