Today I am cleaning my basement. (yawn!) But oh... this isn't just any basement. I used to make soap for a living, and still have lots of supplies left over that I have been ignoring for the past year

I reckon your supplier shouldn't have a problem either buying the stuff back from you at cost or for free. Give them a call anyways because obviously it's not stuff you want sitting around in your basement...someone might get the wrong idea about all those chemicals!! LOL
I have 1 problem though - the NaOH & KOH are no longer in thier original packaging. As a matter of routine, I break the sack of soda down into preweighed portions according to my formulas. At this point, I'd be happy if they'd just take it off my hands for free. But again, no original packaging = no idea if the product it pure. Given the number of psychos in the world, I wouldn't blame them for not wanting to take my word on what this powder is.
I have one very slllloooooww solution for disposal: every week, scatter about a pound of soda on the area that we burn yard waste (yes, we compost, but have more waste than compost needs!). The burn area is already alkaline from the leaching of water through the ash, so critters already stay clear (I've never seen animal tracks of any kind in this area). So, scatter some soda, hose it down well to dilute, repeat.
