I've had this guardian ad litem case that I've done pro bono for over two years. The sisters that I am the GAL for are now 15 and 16 (almost 17). So many things have happened in this case that I can't really write coherently about it.

And yes, it is like a movie. I just hope that it has a happy ending.

You're a full-time attorney, with a full home-life and a GAL?

How do you do it?

That's a good question. Another would be: how do I do it well? I don't think I've ever done everything well all at once. Something always ends up suffering. I guess the trick is in the balancing - something I am still working on.

I am not sure. I haven't been able to get a hold of her yet. I am guessing that she wants to keep the baby - why, I have no idea. This is the same girl that was complaining about having to babysit her baby sister (who is maybe 6 months old now?).

For some reason I think she wants this baby though. At least for now. Once she has to breast feed, change diapers, give up her sleep and free time that she used to spend with friends...maybe then she'll change her mind, but then it'll be too late!

I was talking to my husband about this this morning. While the girls are in the system, they are my responsibility in the sense that I have to deal with the results of their actions. I don't think there's any way that I can control their decisions. They are affected by their environment, and there's not much I can do about that. I just have to do the best I can I guess. Sometimes it feels like it's not enough.
