I think you are being very nieve. When do people freely act agaist what is easiest and most convenient for them? The only things that have developed in homo erectus since 28000 years ago is our brain capacity and that has led to all of the causes of the problems that the report talks about. The body is built so thet we find high calorie foods the most appealing and this is a throwback to the time when we had to hunt for our own foods. Also the bodys ability to quickly store the calories as fat reserves, these together in a typical person acting the way evolution intended is to eat as much tasty food as they can and lay down lots of fat stores. Unfortunalely for us we as a society have never to worry about our food supply but our the way our body works hasn't changed. I think that someone needs to try and do something because why should anyone change unless there is a tangible and quick acting disincentive to this behavior.

Surely it isn't Naive to believe that we have a choice in this matter? Are we being led by the nose to troughs of fatty foods and having our heads shoved in completely agaist our own will? Are we really letting market led strategies do our thinking ofor us? It is ridiculous for anyone to hold other people responsible for their own actions ( ... )

but obviously the majority of people aren't taking responsibility so there should be measures put in place as a disincentive. Like sugar tax. I really think people don't value their own body and the only way to get them to change eating habits is to have penalties. People know smoking is very dangerous and still do it and it is only after there has been so many measures put in place is it being seen as socially unacceptable.

It is ridiculous for anyone to hold other people responsible for their own actions. I'm not saying that anyone else is responsible for our actions, i'm saying that it is deeply routed in our nature to behave like this. I mean would you rather have a pizza or a salad? I know what i'd rather have ( ... )

Obviously Pizza! But I also know that I shouldn't eat the bad stuff all the time.

How about matching the disincentive with an incentive like lowering the price of health foods?

While I am saying the blame should be owned by the individual I do however see it as a governmental responsibilty to put measures in place that make a healthier lifestyle a more attractive option to people and a big part of that is cost.
