Maggie is off at a music teachers' conference until Saturday (she left yesterday morning, actually), so I'm home alone with the dogs, trying to figure out what the hell to do with myself. I fiddled with my C.V. and prepped another job application.

That took 30 minutes.

Now what do I do with myself?

no seriously, discover your town on your own, sit in a cafe and people watch. Have a night doing whatever you please without your wife looking at you with surely eyes because your clothes are all over the place.

I know you will still miss her,but try to distract yourself doing something that maybe she doesn't like but you do. This is your chance to do it without feeling guilty that she can't join in.

Hah! Actually, the real problem isn't that my wife is at a conference, it's that I don't have any work to do. None. At all. I can't do anything except wait for feedback from my professors, and maybe lick a stamp. This may sound awful but I don't miss my wife, not enough to be lamenting that she's away - she's only 90 minutes from here and she calls me every few hours anyway. I was actually looking forward to the copious free solo time... until it got here, and then I realized I'd made no plans for the apocalypse of nothing to do.
