To be honest, she was expecting him. Maybe even hoping. After all, this was where everything began; she had hoped it would be a place that reminded him of her.
And it’s that that doesn’t make sense to her-she said goodbye to him, even tore out the diary entries all to avoid seeing him again. But here she was, practically seeking him out.
So she plays pretend, asks if she knows him, knowing all the while it’s a lie.
(And she doesn’t realize, doesn’t stop to think, that just maybe he’ll see through it.)
