Title: there’s not enough in the world
Fandom: Rave Master
Pairing: Sieg Hart/Elie
Theme set: Epsilon
Rating: PG-13
Warning(s): Spoilers! For the entire series! Also, serious abuse of the wonderful thing known as alternate universe.
01•Motion
He should be used to this by now, these motions-the never-changing scenery, a sky with nearly stationary clouds-yet he still hopes against hope that one day, rather than see an empty path stretched before him, he’ll see her smile.
02•Cool
Sieg Hart, Mr. Calm-Cool-And-Collected, apparently famous for having the same exact facial expression no matter what the situation, and rumor has it that there isn’t a thing on this side of the world that can break his shell-Elie sighs at this, pouts, because even as his impromptu girlfriend, she can’t make him crack a smile (at least, not one she ever sees).
03•Young
Perhaps it’s because of her childish nature, but Elie’s true identity surprises him for more than the obvious reasons-he never expected to be younger than her.
04•Last
And as she holds his skull close to her chest, she swears that this is the last time she will lose someone she loves.
05•Wrong
It is in the human nature to want what one cannot have, and as Sieg looks at Elie, looks at her effortless smile and the shine in her eyes, the things Haru brings out, he knows it has been proven true again.
06•Gentle
She looks up-at a person, she knows, she remembers at least that much-and for a second, with the wind playing with his hair, he looks like a kind-hearted god (but then lightning strikes and she wishes to close her eyes once more).
07•One
There could be a million things he regrets-choosing to stay in the past, never saying what he really wanted to-but he decides that it was that he never got to see Elie dance.
08•Thousand
“Sieg,” she sings sweetly, the smile on her face making him just a bit concerned when she pulls him over to the shopping window and points at the dress, “wouldn’t this be a lovely birthday gift for me?”; understanding what she was getting at, he sighed, looked at the price tag, and proceeded to choke on air.
09•King
Reina makes jokes, says he would only ignore King’s orders if he was in love with the girl; of course, she’s wrong, but he doesn’t realize that her words will very soon be true.
10•Learn
He has learned countless spells, knows time like no other human ever will, but when faced with his own feelings, he’s at a loss at what to do.
11•Blur
Sieg does very well in sports apparently, his speed earning him the moniker “blue-haired blur,” and when she finds out, she can’t help but burst out laughing because really, it doesn’t sound good at all.
12•Wait
“Waaaait,” she calls to him, panting now that she’s caught up to him, “stop walking so fast, we should at least walk together!”; he blinks at this, smiles, and takes hold of her hand despite her stuttering and protests, half-saying and half-gloating, “But I thought you wanted to walk together?”
13•Change
“I haven’t changed at all,” he says, lies, and the reason for this change is sitting right behind him.
14•Command
He tells her that she must die, but there’s something in the way he says it that makes her think he’s actually saying, “I’m sorry.”
15•Hold
Sieg is unaccustomed to emotions, comforting; but seeing the girl shaking and wide-eyed and most of all afraid, he holds her close, doesn’t say everything’s okay, and hopes she knows he wishes it was.
16•Need
“What I don’t need,” she says, hands on her hips and pouting, “is for you to look so grumpy all the time! Smile a little!”
17•Vision
She may not be Elie exactly, but he is truly thankful for being able to make her smile for once, and for that to be the last he sees of her.
18•Attention
To be honest, “cool” was never Elie’s type-she usually went after the dorks, like Haru-but there was just something about the mysterious Sieg Hart that got her attention.
19•Soul
He can feel the end starting, knows that today is his last today; and yet, he can’t feel any kind of anxiety, just a peace in knowing that he won’t need his body to watch over her anymore.
20•Picture
They say a picture’s worth a thousand words, but Elie has nothing of the sort, and so there’s only silence between her and her dead thunder god.
21•Fool
Some would call him foolish to not say the one thing he would never get another chance to, but this is how he sees it: should he have said it, said the one word that all hold dear, she would have been burdened with the knowledge of it and no opportunity to answer him and his feelings; and that’s not what he wants for her.
22•Mad
She could hate him, hate him for just leaving her, so abrupt and sudden, but she decides not to, because she is already exhausted from missing him so much; hate would only make it worse.
23•Child
“You should stop treating me like a kid,” she says, licking her ice cream while glaring at him; he rolls his eyes, because honestly, how else should he treat her when she was begging to stop and get some ice cream?
24•Now
Sieg has always lived thinking about all of time, not just one tense over the other, but here, alone with Elie in a past no one knows, he thinks of the now and wishes time would stop.
25•Shadow
Elie’s attempts of surprising him never cease to amuse; after all, one would think that numerous tries of jumping from behind and covering his eyes failing would make her realize that he could always see her shadow coming.
26•Goodbye
And in that moment, she absolutely hates it, hates finding her memories and knowing the truth because it all means she has to say the farewell she never wanted to.
27•Hide
Trapped in the past, it’s like they disappeared from the world, their world, and Elie finds herself biting her tongue to keep herself from saying, “Sieg, why don’t we hide here, just the two of us?”
28•Fortune
Intrigued, the fortune teller looked farther into the girl’s future, wondering what else she could change; what she didn’t expect was the closeness and fondness the girl and her would-be-killer developed, and the eventual tragedy of what separated them forever.
29•Safe
It worries her more than it relieves her, but as she sees his not-so-familiar back in front of her, there’s a sinking feeling that she is safe.
30•Ghost
She loves Haru, really she does, but she knows that there’s a tiny, tiny part of her heart that will always scream for a dead man.
31•Book
Suddenly, the book was lifted from his hands and instead of staring at lines of test, Sieg found himself staring at a rather coy-looking Elie that said, “Don’t you think I’d be more interesting to look at than a book?”
32•Eye
“I spy with my little eye,” he says, lazily gazing around before looking directly at Elie, “something amazing,” and when she realizes what he means, blushing and just a bit sheepish, he can’t help but smile.
33•Never
And never ever ever did she expect to care for him like this, her blue-haired thunder god and attempted killer, but here she was, crying for the man who once tried to steal her life and now gave new meaning to it.
34•Sing
It has taken months of careful observation and almost-not-really-okay-it-is stalking for Elie to discover Sieg Hart’s weakness-choir class.
35•Sudden
It’s falling and floating and wind whirling all around her until she lands, the comfort of solid ground turning hard and cold when she realizes he’s not there.
36•Stop
They’re not even doing anything except holding hands, and yet the quiet happiness he feels makes him wish the moment could go on forever.
37•Time
There’s this look in her eyes, this desperation and hopelessness, and for a split second, he wonders if time is really worth killing her for.
38•Wash
They say that everything fades away with time, but even three-hundred-sixty days since the last time he saw Elie, he can still recall her smile perfectly.
39•Torn
Sieg, it seems, has an infinite number of talents-mending Elie’s ripped and torn shirts is only one of them.
40•History
There’s history between them she realizes; after all, he’s the first person she’s ever met as ‘Elie.’
41•Power
She has the power to change the world and could die for the sake of it, and for the first time in his life, he finds himself struggling between his duty and his heart.
42•Bother
Still leaning over him and pointing at the newspaper, Elie suddenly realizes how rude this is, says, “Oh, I’m sorry! Is this bothering you?” and in truth, his back is getting tired and his neck feels stiff, but the contact and warmth and overall content feeling in his chest makes him say, “Not at all.”
43•God
There truly is no God, he thinks, if I have to kill one so innocent as you.
44•Wall
It’s like there’s a wall between them, only worse; there’s nothing stopping her from getting out, she just can’t reach him.
45•Naked
One day, Sieg makes a point of saying that with the way she dresses, she might as well be wearing nothing; Elie grins deviously and asks if he would prefer that; the responding look on his face is absolutely priceless.
46•Drive
Only ten more days until Overdrive, until he’s wiped out along with the rest of Symphonia; but he sits there, patient, and knows that even if he’ll never see her again, his skeleton will be waiting for her.
47•Harm
He can’t say it out loud, not yet at least, but he shouts it with every pant and every taut line of his limbs: I will always protect you.
48•Precious
It’s true that Elie’s Etherion is important for the sake of the planet, but there’s another reason why he won’t let anyone hurt her, one he doesn’t plan on revealing.
49•Hunger
And when she kisses him, it’s like she can never have enough, like she’s wanted her lips on his since lifetimes ago.
50•Believe
He thinks of their first meeting with the skeleton, fifty years from now, and of how time does not change; so he sits, waits, and believes that they will meet again.
