Suzaku is hesitant to call this “love.”
It’s similar, but not quite-love, he knows, is Euphie: bright pink hair and smiles like the sky, vows and knights and protecting and in the end, it’s all lie, and here you lie dead. That was love.
This, what he feels now, is like a shadow or an echo of what once was; there is an urge to protect, to keep safe, but it hangs heavy in his heart, not like the sky at all. He could describe it as “dark,” but he thinks that simply labeling it is not enough.
If there is anything clear about this, it is that he knows what he wants most, and he swears to himself that he will not see something he cares for destroyed by him again.
