❧ the reality is
▶ Darker than BLACK, Hei + Hei/Yin, set after season 1 but before the second
"March 7; All we ever see of stars are their old photographs" & G & 215 words
There are times where Hei would take it back, take back his choice to let the real sky remain forever hidden.
He lives his life on the run now, already planning his next destination the moment he arrives somewhere. It’s exhausting, worrying and calculating, his guard never-ever-never dropped. He could have let this all go, too-not have to think about anything.
One day, inside a random convenience store in a place he no longer even remembers, he came across a photo album on constellations. Sheer nostalgia drove him to pick it up and flip open the pages.
“This was Cancer,” he had said to Yin as she passively looked on, not a word coming from her mouth. His hand had slid across to the next picture, a whole new set of stars. “And this was Libra.”
And all of those stars and stories had disappeared forever.
But then he’ll look at Yin, standing right next to him with her hand holding loosely onto the tail of his shirt. Whether or not they’re always running and escaping and leaving, never a moment to catch their breaths, she is always, always by his side. More constant than the stars, even.
She won’t let him be alone, and that is enough to never need a true sky.
