The induction ceremony of the Goddess and her knight was considered to be a sacred, sacred thing, and so on one night in sweltering midsummer, a lone trainee was completely and utterly alone with the Lorelei as he waited to be knighted.
After years of worshiping and praising her, he looked at her for the first time in his entire life as he raised his head to state his name. He wasn’t sure of what to expect, but this is what he didn’t:
He didn’t expect to see pools of golden hair lying around her feet, as if binding her to her throne.
He didn’t expect to see the face of an apathetic, passive young woman.
He didn’t expect to question himself on if the person so high above him was the one he agreed to spend his life serving.
(He never, ever expected to fall in love, but by the time he would realize it, it would be far too late.)
