Eh. He's always on the sort list or favored. The committee has shown that lately they prefer to give it to an obscure author, preferably one who is European. Actually, a few years ago someone on the committee talked about how there isn't any good American literature*. I'd be shocked if he ever won the award. He's too well known.
* Paraphrased. Also, I understand Murakami isn't American, but at the time the statement was taken by some as the speaker saying that good literature mostly only comes out of Europe...unless my memory is hazy.
