Pony ouch

Last week, one of the privately owned horses, Max, wasn't in his stall.  I was told he'd colicked a couple days earlier and that they'd taken him down to the equine hospital in Leesburg.  That had me wondering if I'd ever see the fella again.

It's tough on the staff at the regular barn feeding times, just giving Max a teeny portion while his neighbors get 8-12 times as much.

That's got to be trying. Horses can make you feel so guilty about stuff like that.

They sure can. In that pic, Max was trying to persuade someone in the aisle to give him treats. It's even worse when he pokes his nose through the bars on his door, pricks up his ears and gives you a 'cute pony' look. You can almost hear him say 'pweeeaase?'

He had a growth in his abdomen. I was told by another boarder that it was a lipoma that'd managed to grow around his small intestine and cut off circulation. That sounds odd to me, but I suppose it's possible.

Whatever it was, it did enough damage that the surgeons had to take out a chunk.
