I'm sorry to hear that Saki's got problems, but hopefully treatment will ease the situation. I just went through a root canal last Thursday, after all the money I've spent on my teeth I'd hoped I was through with such issues! And I've seen that cats do have their dental issues too, and understand dental care even less than taking medications. Our oldest cat is not quite seven years, so I hope their health issues will hold off for a few more years.

Trying to remember the comics of my youth, but I never had much opportunity or money to collect them even when they were 10 cents. I think I followed Superman and some Disney, but that was mostly it. My memory's fuzzy on a lot of things from that time. For a time during the 80s and 90s I collected lots of independents like Elfquest, Usagi, various manga but that all came to an abrupt halt as did many of the titles I liked to read. The superhero genre just doesn't work for me and manga's changed a lot.

Let us know how the remodeling goes. I imagine it will be 'fun' at times.

A root canal? My sympathies. I hope all went well ... and I hope your wallet recovers quickly. I need two crown restorations. Been putting it off a while and now this month the cats have racked up really good vet-bills, so I have an excuse to put it off a little longer. :)

Rum was pretty good about taking antibiotics 2 times a day, but Saki just was NOT a happy camper with taking liquid meds - even one that was flavored cod liver oil. So now I'm hiding a pill once a day in a catnip-laced kitty treat and so far, so good.

Yeah, I don't read many comics or manga any more either. On the other hand I seem to be creating my own, so I can't complain.

I need to get some drawings finalized enough I can drop them by the contractor's and get an estimate. At some point I expect I'll move in with mom, cats and all, while the heavy demolition goes on. That ought to be interesting. 0__o

'Tis better to create than to consume. Sometimes it even pays moneys...

re: renovations

Plan for the unexpected; tearing out walls and floors and such will uncover things you didn't know about your house that may need fixing or improvement. All part of the process of getting grey hairs in our middle age. My sister went through an extended process of that in replacing their roof.

I'm sorry to hear about Saki. I lost Sasha to renal failure. I'm glad the other cats are doing well.

Kimi hated her medicine, too. She quickly caught on to the hide-the-pill in something tasty trick, though.

Yes, I imagine that you and your cats are better off with your mother during the renovations. One of our bathrooms needs to be repaired when we get the $$. Naturally, it's the one that anyone could access from the hall, not the one we have to go through our sister's room to reach (or, if that bathroom's sliding glass door is unlocked, go through the kitchen, the breakfast nook, a corner of the dining room, the dog room, and across the patio to access).

What would you do about the yard cats while you were staying at your Mom's?

So far, so good, with giving Saki his meds once a day in a kitty treat. He's still not feeling great, the vet says it may take awhile for things to start stabilizing back toward normal. They want to check his blood readings in 30 days.

I think the yard cats will manage if I come by and feed them at intervals -- probably at the day's end. We'll see how the project goes, I may only have to be away from the house for a short time - or maybe not at all. I guess it all depends on how the demolition part goes. 0__o

A new feral kitty has showed up. Smallish, shaggy, black, very shy. Not sure if it is male or female or where it lives. It loops around in the morning looking to clean up leftovers. I'll try to trap it for the weekend vet run to Seattle on Saturday. *Siigh*

It's going to be really hard when my animals die, my cat's been around for 17 years (much of my life) and both my dogs are deaf. Mom was wondering if that's why Lacey seems to understand some of our hand gestures. She's a border collie so that may be why, and Buddy doesn't really get up out of his bed anymore.

That's the problem with having furry family members. We usually out-live them. But it is worth it, even if it hurts when we part company for a time. I'm trusting we'll see them again eventually. Your cat is doing great! My oldest kitty so far got to 14 or so. I am hoping Rum and Saki will hang in there for a good long time, as will Greymalkin. Border collies are super-smart. My sister and her family has one that is now 14 and still doing good. Harley has some visual impairment, and might be partly deaf, but she manages very well, and she sure can smell food when you have it. :D
