business don't care one way or another about morals
they just want to make money
if the group who wants the journals shut down doesn't get their way, the might say "omg lj harbors the pedophiles", which would scare users away, which would make lj have less money
more users would be scared away than would be cancelled by enforcing a ban

now they have to decide if the scared away users are still more than the cancelled users plus the users who are angry about the whole thing.
