But, God, I'm so incredibly bored with having nothing to do, day to day. I'm not one for sitting on my ass, and contemplating my navel in a Zen garden, as beautiful as the gardens here might be

I'm the last person you should be asking that. The only hobby I have is rock climbing. What about catching up on your reading you always say you have no time for? I could send you books from your place if you want.

That would be great. Something tells me that frequent trips into Tokyo to the really large bookstores might get annoying after a while.
