Still Snowed in on 1-11-11!!!

Jan 11, 2011 23:11

This is the year of palindromic dates, is it not? :) Well, I guess it's fitting; sometimes I do go a bit backwards to go forwards, eh? At least it feels that way.

I should be caught up in all replies though; if I didn't reply you it's because I'm *blush* not that quick on the uptake and probably lost something or other. I'm sorry. Poke me again.

At any rate, I'm still snowed in, but I've still managed to be rather busy with a dozen little things that I had to do because I was snowed in. XD So it isn't much of a break as it is a breather, though that's been desperately need for a while too. Hehehe.

Being snowed in means that I FINALLY managed to steal some time to start on the pile o' books people gave me for Christmas; right now I'm reading "The Name of the Wind" by Patrick Rothfuss. I also am contemplating getting a subscription to Fantasy and Science Fiction Magazine, because a friend gave me a bunch to read over the holidays and it reminded me how MUCH I love well crafted short stories. It kinda makes me sad that short story, as a craft, is dying out --- at least commercially. It's also a craft I've never quite mastered, but I think it'd get better if I'd actually SIT down and practice daily. I really have to carve out more time for myself, I swear. And read too. Because both go hand in hand, I know.

Though I will say this ... although a lot of my life has been quite frustrating lately, I've had some pretty rewarding experiences too. I try not to go into detail about my life, but heh ... this is somewhat tangentially related to fandom in that I got to write.

Some of the chaos I've been having lately was really my own fault (Well, okay, to be honest, MOST of the chaos is my fault, but this more than the other "arrrgh! Chaos!" that follows me around!)

On top of a really big mountain of work, I sorta volunteered to help out with some middle school students. Was it smart, given the mountain load of other work? No. But was it a good experience writing? Oh goodness yes!

The students are going to put what I wrote into a play and they're going to perform it! I'm really flattered too ... I wasn't sure the teachers would want to do this project, but they seem happy.

My words. In a play. I know it's not a big deal, since it is like a middle school play, and it's for a small audience and put on by young students, but I'm still kinda tickled. So I guess I have been doing SOME writing, but I need to do more free writing for myself. XD

Well, speaking of practice, I am scrounging out more fic from the archive for a proper boxing day gift. Gift wise, I have several ratty looking boxes with ninja igo players on it (box A, B, and C), a strange random Hikago ficlet that I only vaguely remember writing and is about ... well, Hikaru and Akira and Igo. Yeah. I know. ORIGINAL STUFF!

Or I can finish (or you can add more) requests on the apology post. Though I still have several things to get through on the apology AND the Halloween post, so I might just do that instead.

So, my question is: if you were (and to be honest, you are) going to receive a belated Boxing Day Gift, would you rather have something from the archive (Boxes A, B, C, or D) or something I'm going to whip up more recently, perhaps on a marathon writing session tomorrow? I'm stuck at home, so I could do either. X3

Needless to say, choose ... but choose wisely! XD XD Remember, you CANNOT UNSEE BAD FIC! WOAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHA *cough cough!*

Anyways, I hope everyone is keeping warm!! :) Actually, I'm sorta enjoying being forcibly stuck at home, to tell the truth. XD So yeah, it'll thaw soon, but maybe I'll manage to get some writing done in the meantime ... is it wrong to pray for a little more cold?
