Doctor's visit was great!!! So much to write, but everything looks perfect and amazing (doctor's words). I really like this doctor. We talked for like an hour about all of the testing, and what happened with Quinn and she reassured that she is going to keep a close eye on me throughout the pregnancy and will take good care of me. We have no idea if ( Read more... )

Yeah..It's so weird. When we were pregnant with Quinn, I guess the way the doctor presented it, we thought we HAD to do it. We had no idea it was optional. Ugh. I think that doctor we saw was weird. And he was like "you have to do it this week, so you need to get on that!"..

Anyway, we had a terrible experience with those tests last time and we don't want to go through that again. So we don't know what we are going to do..Hmmm...Maybe better to just skip it..I'm just afraid if I don't do the tests then I'll keep worrying that something is wrong and we just don't know! ugh..Neurotic much? :)

That totally makes sense. I'm actually getting really annoyed at that doctor from three years ago for making us feel like we had to do it!! AND he barely described what the hell we were testing for anyway..Ugh. The doctor today explained that it's California law to offer the tests. A congressman had a baby with spina bifida and found out that there was a blood test that would have told him ahead of time, so he passed a law that doctors have to offer the tests.

Well, we have the genetic counselor's number and we can at least talk to them and see what they think. I hae no idea if based on our weird numbers last time that we would be considered high risk again, or if those numbers are based on that specific pregnancy. The one thing it did tell us last time was that there may be something wrong with the placenta, which there was..But overall it made the whole experience of being pregnant kind of a nightmare. :( It would be nice to not go through that again! Anyway, I know I'm preaching the choir..Just venting :)

It's so weird, because with Quinn I guess the way the doctor presented the screening, we thought it was something we HAD to do. We didn't know we had a choice not to do it..Ugh..And I don't know if you remember, but we were one of the people with the false positive. We had a 1 < 5 chance that the baby had Trisomy 13 or 18. It was terrible. They couldn't do the CVS test so we had to wait a month for the amnio and we were completely freaking out. So after going through that, now I know that no matter what happens we would keep the baby, so we are not sure what we want to do. Part of me would just want to know either way, and if we don't do the testing, am I going to worry that there is something wrong and we just don't know? hmm ( ... )

I think I wanted to do the 10-12 week ultrasound because of what Jenny said - I wanted the detailed look at them. But I can also see your point of view .... you are going to have an ultrasound again at the middle point. You might as well wait.

So you are almost 10 weeks...and with those measurements, you might as well be 10. WOO! Three more weeks and you are out of the first trimester. Hurray! I am so excited for you.

How's the nausea going?

I know! Almost ten weeks! Crazy..The nausea is awful. But I am actually feeling good right now. The last few days I have been fine by around 7pm..Thank god. The doctor said it should be peaking soon and should start to ease up in a couple weeks..I freaking hope so :)

we didn't do the testing with either of my pregnancies.. I just couldn't justify subjecting myself to potential false positives when we'd be keeping the baby regardless. I understand why some ladies just need to know, though.

I'm glad everything is looking great!!

I am realizing now that I am in the minority with the testing! This is very eye-opening for me. I totally thought everyone did this testing..I seriously thought we had to. Ugh. I wonder if my "real life" friends did it? I know one friend did, but I have no idea if anyone else did. Hmm...Interesting.

Sean and I are going to talk about it. I just don't know if I want to go through that again..
