Right before I read this I was re-reading a paper I'd written (I'm going to post it in an LJ entry here in a second) that talks about my fascination with werewolves. I hadn't thought about my fear of the-other-side-of-the-shower-curtain for a long time - but I totally understand what you're saying. The shower is a very vulnerable place, and I used to always dread shampooing my hair because I would have to close my eyes to rinse the shampoo off, and I was sure that one of those times when I opened them there would be someone (or something) waiting for me on the other side of the curtain. (I actually know where this fear came from too. It wasn't Psycho (which I also talk about in my paper - shameless plug!), but the video for "Somebody's Watching Me" by Rockwell (featuring Michael Jackson). That freaked me out big time when I was a kid. (There's actually a lyric in the song that goes "when I'm in the shower / I'm afraid to wash my hair / I might open my eyes and find someone standing there.") To this day, I have a clear shower

I'm glad someone else understands this, I've put those fears deep behind a wall in my mind but they have never left.

I can understand being afraid of clowns, they're real. (Oka, I can't really understand, but I'll give ya the benefit of the doubt)... It was hilarious when Chris & I had hazmatgear visiting from Manitoba. We were eating at Ruby Tuesdays, and some store across the street was using a clown to draw attention to a sale they were having. hazmatgear wanted to head across the street with a 2x4... apparently they bug him . . . a lot.
