I've been losing my hearing for the past four months. The process has been so slow that I've barely noticed the theft. Finally, annoyed by having to concentrate on people's lips moving in order to bolster my understanding of conversations, I went to the doctor and got myself sorted ( Read more... )

I have also had the syringe. The nurse told me it happens more and more often the older you get.

I have my ears cleared out every 6 months because I have a condition to do with the consistency of my wax. My doctor would have a fit if anyone ever syringed my ears. When I went to London she gave me specific instructions not to let anyone (ie: medical professional) do that.

I've found the best method for clearing earwax if you don't want to go to a specialist is ear drops. Just a couple of drops in each ear, and then some cotton wool to stop them leaking. It'll soften the wax enough so that it comes out naturally the way its supposed to.
