An old flatmate of mine who had lived in Christchurch told me that this certain kind of wind comes in over the Canterbury plains and blow all these positive ions which proceed to make everyone go a little mental.
It's funny how Christchurch is New Zealand's second largest city (though not much bigger than Wellington/Hutt Valley/Porirua) and yet often has all the sophistication of Putaruru.

Oh, I am SO the same. Once on a flight to England, I woke to the sound of the wheels thundering on the runway and thought, disoriented, "Oh, we're STILL taking off?" - Nope, we were THERE.
