It's funny, I do occasionally mention you to rl friends, but I only refer to you as "this guy I know on the internet" and the only things I say about you are about how much I admire your freshness and your honesty, and how unthreatened you are by life. You're sort of godlike to me. I reckon you might be the Buddah for our generation. Don't ascend too soon, though, you're good for me.
What's interesting is that I really am unthreatened. The friend's list cull has nothing to do with me. I'm not really sure I care if people know what's happening in my life.
That being said, I can understand how - if identified - the people I write about infrequently can wind up feeling a little violated by my openness.
I try to pretend that it's different because my writing is stylistic and quite tongue-in-cheek but, at the end of the day, I'm not sitting at the sharp end of a keyboard, am I?
And so I fall back on the protection of anonymity by limiting the reading population to foreigners.
Although Clea, I'm not quite certain whether Australia really counts as "foreign". I suppose it will when I get to London.
Oh crap Joe. I did cut you and now I'm feeling guilty.
Here's the deal. While my journal is fun and games for me, I can't afford to hurt people I actually care about and the last (protected) entry did just that.
I understand completely that people (read: readers) may mention shit at a dinner party or anywhere else and I'm not sure I'm prepared to be responsible for that.
I know a few people who don't even have LJ accounts who like reading your public entries, so if you keep doin' those, I'm sure your non-LJ-friend fans will be happy (otherwise, I suspect there will be rioting).
Thank you for keeping me, and for trusting me. I feel honoured :)
I can sympathise with what happened to you, considering that a similar thing happened to me last year. I know how it feels, and at least you have the benefit of knowing who did it to you.
It's a tricky business, knowing who to trust on LJ, which is why I limited my friends list a long time ago only to people that I have met in person. I have known 95% of them for many years.
It's such a shame when people go and do this sort of treacherous thing.

I would keep you on but seeing as I don't know you or your number, I couldn't hunt you down and kill you should you do the unthinkable.
See my dilemma?
I'm sure nothing interesting will happen to me in Europe anyway.

Edited: Okay, I see I'm cut. Either way, thanks for everything. I'd love to keep reading if you so choose.
