Aldray had blended in rather well - in fact, it would require magic to locate the man. He wasn't disguised, but hidden - hidden in the stone wall behind the platform, thanks to a couple of handy spells. There, he would sit and watch the address - and from there, he could see the people as well. If anyone showed ill will, he would likely be able to spot them.

The cleric had tried for a graceful deflection of Phil's inquiry - stating that he had no intentions of disappointing the king - he just hoped the king would give him time. Asking such a thing took a great deal of courage, and he wanted to have an appropriate ring for the job. Not to mention the timing and place and whatnot; he wanted those to be right as well. The king's expectations did put on some pressure, but so far, he was handling it well enough.

For now, though, making sure Amelia and Philionel stayed safe was the important thing...

He nods, moving that hand from her neck to the top of her head. It ran through her hair a few times in a consoling manner, and he couldn't help a smile and a chuckle. "One heck of a punch you've got there, though," he commented. "You sure you needed my help in all this?"

Despite feeling faint, Amelia still had to blush a bit at the remark. That spell was usually reserved for demonic beings on monsters, creatures who existed on the astral plane and couldn't be harmed by physical attacks alone. Even so, the man who was getting taken away was a worthwhile exception.

Sighing at the pets to her head, she clung on, worried her legs would give out otherwise. "I think that's obvious, considering what could have happened if you hadn't been there."

The cleric's shoulders dipped just slightly at that response, and he held Amelia a bit tighter. "Ah...apologies, then. Humor is not my forte, it would seem." And neither was determining the proper time for it.

Shaking her head a little on seeing his reaction, Amelia hugged him more, hand reaching up to brush against his face, smiling softly in reassurance. "You don't need to apologise, I appreciate you trying to make me feel better. Still, we better go back to the palace, Daddy will be wondering where we are."

That got a small smile out of him, and the cleric nodded. "Are you able to make the walk?" He had noticed her wobbling legs and how much she'd been clinging onto him at the same time.

Looking down, her brow furrowed a moment, almost trying to will her legs to steady, though to no avail. "Um, I should manage, if I take off my heels." she replied, letting do in order to bend down and remove her shoes, though she still looked a little wobbly.

Aldray nodded, though he also noted the wobbly look to the woman. His arm reached around her back, supporting her a bit more. "Feel free to lean on me, and you set the pace." Amelia wasn't weak in any sense of the word, and while he felt he should give her a chance to try to walk herself, he was quite prepared to scoop her up and carry her if needed.

Knowing him as she did, Amelia could guess the alternative, and it didn't exactly sound like a bad idea. Despite how pleasant it may have been though, she worried that the sight of them returning to the palace, Aldray carrying her like a bride over the threshold, was only going provoke further attempts by her father that they should make a committment to each other.

Slipping her shoes off, she smiled in appreciation for the support, she straightened up and started walking, though a little bit unsteady still. Thankfully, they didn't have to go a great distance.

That would be rather awkward, but the cleric could more than likely deal with it well enough.

Aldray stayed right with her, pausing if need be until they reached the palace.

She appreciated the support, physical or otherwise, as they finally got inside the palace grounds. Now a bit steadier, Amelia was able to take her father aside for reassurance, as well as persuade him not to press Aldray for much at that moment. Phil did agree, but he still couldn't help but be inclined to meddle a bit for the sake of his daughter.

"Ah, Sir Aldray! I would be most grateful if you would escort Amelia back to her room and stay with her for a while. Probably best to carry her up, she's had so much to deal with today..." he called out at he watched Amelia retreat towards the cleric. Needless to say, she turned back rather quickly at the words.

"Daddy! I don't..."

"Now now Amelia dear, I know how strong my girl is, but you should rest, and I'm sure he can take care of you for the rest of the day." he chuckled, leaving the princess to flush with embarrassment as she glanced up at the cleric. At least he hadn't brought up marriage like she had asked him to.
