The TARDIS had insisted on lingering in space, and the Doctor hadn't the will to argue with her. This latest escapade had taken too much out of him - perhaps she thought he needed a bit of a break. A bit of peace, until the next adventure, the next -
Or perhaps she wanted him in the right place, and the right time, once again. There, a ship the likes of which he'd never seen before - and he was being contacted.
He couldn't hear the message, but the TARDIS knew she had been contacted, and thus so did he; he knew it wasn't hostile.
So, naturally, he decided to materialise inside the strange vessel.

That wasn't at all suspicious, no.
"Who-" he tried to growl, but his voice caught, throat thick from disuse. He cleared it and tried again. "Who are you?" First person he'd seen in years or not, that would be no excuse for letting his guard down.

He still stayed close to the entrance, though his smile didn't waver at the sight of the electricity. He did raise his hands, making it clear he wasn't armed.
"A fellow traveller. Your message caught my attention, but I couldn't respond. Very sorry for the intrusion, I would have knocked if I could."
