Seek, And Ye Shall Find (PG-13) [1/2]con_spireAugust 7 2011, 12:33:12 UTC
London, 1805
James Potter, Duke of Peverell, was furious. With a violence he did not know himself to possess, he flung open the dirty, flimsy Muggle door.
Lily's quarters were absolutely wretched. The woman herself was nestled in an armchair, a book propped open on her lap. She fixed her eyes on him, hardly attempting to veil her irritation

James felt helpless, torn. "Is that what this is all about, then?" he said. "The opinions of the ton, the opinions of the pure-blooded?" He strode towards her, determination set in every movement. "You are my life, Lily. All others be hanged

Another amazing AU! As a big fan of historical fiction, this fic was doubly exciting to read. James is such a well-meaning terror here, what with his frustration and his refusal to take no for an answer. Given the time period, I love what you've done with Lily's reasons why she won't be with him. Class differences aren't so much an issue in present day wizarding culture, it seems. However if the sentiments of the Black family are any indication, they probably were in the early 1800s. Lily's hesitance to be with James and why made her incredibly endearing. And it's just like James to follow her to the ends of the earth. :) Also, I wasn't expecting magic and Hogwarts to be mentioned at all, so it caught me pleasantly off guard!

It's so fascinating how you've fused the familiarity (from books and such, at least) of nineteenth-century London with the magical world; it seems so natural that way. And I love how you've portrayed the passion James and Lily have for each other so clearly. Great job!

Another great AU! I love how you take the prompts and run away with them. I loved this, it was like reading a bodice ripper! I loved your depiction of James here and his unbridled passion for ily. I love how Lily tried to seem apathetic, but then shows the depth of her emotions for James. This piece was lovely, breath-taking and utterly sexy despite not containing a modicum of smut, lol.

Heee! This is like Georgette Heyer meets Harry Potter, and I don't just mean that because of the time period: I love how the style is faithful to the genre, as well! I've admittedly only read once G. Heyer novel, but the prose here reminded me so much of it - from the cravats, to the "by Joves", and... seriously, wow.
Love how the things we love best about L/J are still there, though - her telling him to deflate, and the Muggle-born versus pureblood issues, etc. (Come to think of it, I'd love to see this fleshed out into a longer story... ;)
Thanks very much for sharing, it was such a pleasure to read!

Thank you! :) Haha, this time period is just too gorgeous to stay away from, isn't it? I can't say I've read any Heyer books - I started out with more contemporary, so to speak, Regency writers, so when I tried Heyer I found her a mite too slow. I do recognize she basically founded the genre, though, so I'm glad my writing was up to scratch. Thank you again!

And honestly, it was nothing like what I'd imagined as a response, which makes it all the better :)
