Character's Name: Lavi
Series: D.Gray-Man; taking from current chapters despite lack of appearance in them
History: Lavi remembers nothing before age six, when Bookman adopted him and took him on as his apprentice. As part of the tradition of the Bookman Clan, Lavi cast away his real name (which is unknown) and took on an alias for each job that he followed Bookman on, covering up his right eye under orders. Their job is to record the hidden and secret histories not written down in the books, typically wars and controversial things. A Bookman never gets involved, or attached to those he's recording. As Lavi traveled with Bookman he learned different languages, improved his memory to the point that he can recall anything he's seen even if it was just once, and a few other misc skills. Joining the Order was a real big turning point for Lavi, casting away his 48th alias (Deak) and taking on his 49th, he started to care about the people he was working with.
Meeting Allen, someone who continuously shocks Lavi with how brilliant he shines, was another big point for Lavi. This is someone he genuinely started to care about, like all the others of the Black Order: Lenalee, Kanda, Krory, Miranda, etc. Slowly but surely he was letting go of his Bookman self, something that should have never happened. When they receive orders to go find the Generals of the Order and protect them, Lavi is devastated before they leave China. He and Lenalee found a bloody pool in the middle of a bamboo forest where Timcampy left Allen after the fight with Tyki. A scientist from the Asia Branch tell them to go on without the Exorcist who can no longer fight beside them; Lenalee and Lavi both take it hard though Lavi let's it brood more on the inside as he's not supposed to care.
Once in the Ark, in Japan, Lavi is forced by the Noah to leave behind his companions one by one. First Kanda, then Krory, until he gets trapped by Rhode in a game with his Heart, the one he's not supposed to have. In the game, all of his "friends" are "dead" and come back only to try and kill Lavi; for a while his Bookman self has control of Lavi's body and attacks Allen outside of the game. Lavi manages to defeat Rhode's game and starts to burn himself up with a harsh flame attack, only to be saved by Allen. He fights alongside Allen briefly when Tyki's Noah attacks, his Innocence crumpling under the strain. Upon returning to the Order after Allen stops the Ark download, Lavi and Lenalee travel with Inspector Reverrier down to Hevlaska's chambers when the Order is under Noah/Akuma attack. He is struck by her desire to do anything she can, even if it means shortening her lifespan by becoming a new Innocence type user, if she can save the ones she loves.
With the attack thwarted, the next order of business is actual Bookman-business. Lavi is told to follow Allen into a room where his friend talks to his master, Cross Marian. He finds out, alongside Allen, that the Fourteenth (the uncounted Noah who left his family) planted his memories inside Allen and that one day the Noah would awaken and take over his host's body. Cross disappears not too long after that, seemingly dead, and Bookman tells Lavi that if his Innocence shows signs of changing to a Crystal-type like Lenalee's new boots, they are leaving at once. Lavi and Bookman then disappear from the manga except for a few, unmentionable appearances.
Personality: Before joining the Order Lavi was pretty cold and distant, detaching himself from everything like a proper Bookman. After all, why would he, someone outside history, care and involve himself in the affairs of those who just create war after war. In short, Lavi found humans stupid. Even upon joining the Order Lavi continued to think this way, putting up a front of a friendly and joking character. Two years passed in the order, and that front slowly became less of one and more of Lavi's real face.
Lavi is finding the friendly, out-going, and amiable front that he put up at the beginning of the record is slowly becoming his real face. In the end making the knowledge that he will one day have to leave even harder to bear. He jokes and kids and even hands out nicknames like free candy at Halloween, each of the Exorcists have become like family. Even if Kanda is always threatening to behead 'the rabbit' for calling him by his first name. He finds himself caring about them, calling the Order home, something that alarms him at first. Upon meeting Tyki, the Noah he thought killed Allen, he flew into a rage and called the kill, going after the powerful Noah, because Allen was a precious "friend".
Although constantly wearing a smile and being happy-go-lucky, Lavi does remember his job and he takes it very seriously. When called upon the smile is gone and the Bookman he is deep down inside comes back out. It's harder to remain distant from everything but he still manages a professional state of mind. He does not divulge any information he has recorded in the past (ie previous records), nor the information he has been made privy to in the current record unless it isn't top secret. One thing that always seems to stick with him is his love for the older women, it being a habit to get hearts in his eyes and yell out 'STRIKE!!'
Powers and Abilities: Upon joining the order with Bookman at age sixteen Lavi was found to be compatible with a fragment of Innocence, the weapon of choice against the Akuma, his took the form of a black hammer with white stripes on the head. It was aptly named Ōzuchi Kozuchi or "Big Hammer, Little Hammer", and Lavi uses two keywords to control it, "man" (grow) and "shin" (extend), the Order given name being Tettsui. The hammer is capable of growing and extending to unknown sizes and lengths but no matter how big the weight does not bother Lavi, though it bothers others.
His second level activation for the Innocence consists of elemental seals, the most frequently used seal being the Fire seal, or "hi ban". It takes the form of a giant snake made entirely out of flames. The other known seals are Heaven, Wood, and a combination of the Heaven and Fire seals; Lavi has yet to learn all of the seals available to him, as Water and Earth seals are listed but not known. More detailed explanation of their moves below.
There is also Lavi's incredible memory and additional Bookman skills.Hi Ban: Gouka Kaijin: using the fire seal to create a torrent of flames with the form of a snake;
Ten Ban: Raitei Kaiten: using the heaven seal to liberate an immense lightning;
Moku Ban: Tenchi Bankai: using the wood seal to control objects in nature;
Konbo Ban: Gouraiten: using both fire and heaven seals to create a huge snake of fire and iron. Also making a shield-like flame wall.
