re: mainstream media discussing social media use in museums. I think we have to remember that the media are not museum professionals - and that, in our field, some museum professionals are advanced in strategy for museums (i.e. Walters Art Museum), and others still have to catch up and/or start using social media platforms.
I agree with you - "I applaud the Times for devoting space to museum news, and for acknowledging this phenomenon or trend and bringing it to wider attention". I also applaud the Times for having a space for this conversation on Twitter. It seemed to go by very quickly - and using my phone, I was often 7 minutes from the real-time posts (reading the tweets in the feed and posting myself)!
Finally - it was awesome to connect, after the chat on TWitter, with a few non-profits (museum and university) who wanted to share and/or trade social media policy and procedure with me. That might not have happened unless the conversation got
I'm perpetually behind, and I didn't even realize that the Times had done the Museum special. Even though I get an email of the Times headlines every day, they didn't mention the special. And now that they're going to charge for access, the Times is pretty much over for me as a source
