5 Reasons MGS 3DS Isn't So Bad

Dear MGS fandom,

I don't get it. Why did we collectively flip our shit over MGS 3DS? Here's a few reasons why I don't think it's really so bad:

1) The timing. Announcing the game so early means there's a good possibility it's a launch title or a near launch title for the platform. Looking at the list of upcoming 3DS titles, it seems like Nintendo's been recruiting big name developers so the 3DS doesn't get shoved under the same casualware generator label its predecessor was. So it's less Kojima being a massive dicktroll than it is corporate synergy at work.

2) Look at the platform it's on. I'm all for a new installment or a remake of MG and/or MG2, but let's be realistic here. This is the Nintendo 3DS. KojiPro has got to program for a new control scheme (only one analog nub!) and the limits of a handheld. I'd say MGS 3DS is probably a test run on two levels, to gauge if there's enough consumer interest in a Metal Gear 3DS game and to play around with the new hardware. I doubt it'll be the last Metal Gear game on the 3DS (unless it or the 3DS completely tanks). And honestly, if it were a new installment or a MG/MG2 remake that was announced, everyone would be bitching about it not being on the PS3 or 360.

3) Thank God it's not a new game. Remember Metal Gear Ac!d and Metal Gear Ac!d^2 and Ghost Babel and how no one played those games? Yeah, me too. The first game on a new console is kind of a gamble. Personally, I'd rather if no one plays a Metal Gear game on the 3DS, it's MGS 3DS they're not playing and not, say, something with an entirely new story (or the MG/MG2 remake).

4) It's easy to ignore if you don't care for it. As a remake, either the changes are going to be so negligible you can ignore it easily, or so drastic you can still ignore it easily since you've still got the original MGS3. In any case, it'll be a lot easier to ignore MGS 3DS than it would be to ignore Portable Ops or Peace Walker.

5) Levity is a good thing. It's a Nintendo console, so maybe Kojima will indulge in more of his usual crazy and the game won't be SRS BZNS all the time. The title being a pun means we're off to a good start. :D

Sincerely,

MusexMoirai

P.S. I can't say too much about the Rising trailer, but Raiden getting sustenance out of killing someone else strikes me as sad. It's like ironic commentary on his life. He's a vampire.
