So...my laptop. After sacrificing some things I wanted, I was fine. Then I extended the warranty to 3 years, and I'm up to $1500 again. No matter where I go (dell, hp, i even went to gateway). And it's driving me crazy. There are 3 things that are really killing me. The pentium 4, the 512 RAM, and the 60 GB harddrive. I really need to know if I'd still have a fine system if I downgraded anywhere in those catagories. Well, I still want a pentium 4. But would I still be okay with a 40 GB harddrive? The plan is to store all the mp3s, pictures, and video files I've garnered and saved since I started saving off the family computer, and more than that. There's a ton of LOTR video files I haven't even touched because I've been waiting for my laptop. And I also need to download winamp and winmx and all those good programs. You know, I don't even know what that exactly means.
Okay, so I knocked it down to a 40 GB. I'm keeping my 512 though. And the pentium 4. And, I'm also looking at it this way. I chose a 3 year warrenty plan. If I knock it down to the cheapest option, a one year, I subtract $145. I also chose an accidental damage thing for 3 years. If I don't have that, I subtract $102. This means that $247 of this is warranties. If I went to Best Buy, I think it's $300 for 4 years, and they don't cover accidental damage. Also, my computer is about as much as I want it to be, I'm just paying money for the warranty and that's why it's currently $1458. And see, my mom told me to get the warranty (I keep spelling that with an "e", like "warrent") for at least 2 years, and the thing is that I don't need at home, just mail-in service. And there's only 1 or 3 year options with that.
I really think in the end, though, that Dell is a better deal. With hp you get a bit better system, because you can't customize down any more, but the warranty's $300 and it ends up costing more. Gateway frustrated me to no ewnd, you can't customize it, and there's only pentium 4s in the small business catagory. Besides that, they offer accidental damage, but not5 to Wisconsin residents. I hate discrimination. :-) Besides, with Dell I get a printer too. And a free wireless card. And free shipping. I'm scared to see the tax, though. Ooh, $80. That sucks. But really, Dell is the best everywhere. HP's tax was a bit more, and their free shipping is for 5-7 days. Dell's is 3-5 days. So, umm...ha to myself. I even tried to not go with Dell, and I'm going with Dell. You know what's funny, though? Ever since the Steve the Dell Boy commercials, I've wanted to buy from Dell. It's Steve who did it for me, really. Too bad he decided to be stupid and get caught with drugs and then get fired.
If I have a wireless card and my school supports wireless (which I guess it does, but then I remember saying my dorm wasn't wireless yet) do I need an ethernet card? Because I don't think the Dell comes with one. Which is bad, really. I need to look at this again.
So tired. I wanted to get this done tonight, but I may not be able to. No!! I will perservere (sp?)until this work is done. I want my laptop and I want it now, darnit! Even if it is going to cost me over $1500. Taxes and warranty, taxes and warranty. Technically, my computer costs me a little over $1200. Which is exactly what I was thinking. Woot woot.
I'm suddenly hungry. But probably not, because I ate a lot today and...stuff.
Guess what? I only have to work...uhh...11 more days!!! I'm excited.
http://rescom.uwec.edu/DesktopDefault.aspx Is a network card the same as an ethernet card?!? Oh crap, I don't know!! The plugs look about the same size, but I don't know!! This is not good. It does say "Network connector (RJ-45) for easy connection to a network or high speed modem." Is ethernet a high speed modem? I thought so. Dude, I hate this so much. I thought I knew a lot, now I feel like a total novice. Idiot. Whatever.
Okay, I'm good. I had sworn I had seen the 10/100 ethernet listed somewhere. I finally found it in the "tech specs" section, under I/O ports. So, I was right, it is the back one. Phew. Good, now I can buy this baby. :-D Also, for reference to me, wireless is available around campus, but not in the residence halls.
I hate dial-up. Thatr's half of why I'm still rambling on and on here.
The fair starts tomorrow. Not looking forward to it all that much, because last year it sucked horribly. I get nautious on most of the rides, most of the rides suck anyway, they took away my favorite darts booth, and...yeah. Sucked. And I will only spend $20 on darts this year, not $30 or more like I normally do. Or, maybe I'll just say my tip money. Or not. Whatever.
So. Tired. I've been up since 8:30. Don't really know why. Oh well, I can sleep in a bit tomorrow. Because today I burned 8 cds of Marty and Rick's I wanted. Yay!! I now have both of Tracy Chapman's cds, the Cranberries, Jamiraquoi, Jimmy Buffet, Glorria Estefan, and Phil Collin's Greatest Hits, and...oh! Sister Hazel. I have 5 more I want to burn, but I ran out of time.
Damn Dell...I had something in my cart, it says it'll be there for 3 days. My session expired, what happens? It's not there!!
I not only hate dial-up, I believe it is the devil. I want to go to bed. The offer ends Wednesday. I might not have enough time tomorrow after I get home from work, darnit all!!!!
Okay, finally ready to check out. Or not. I don't have enough info, to do it either way. I guess I have to wait until I come home tomorrow. Or have a convo with my mom over the telephone. Anyway...real update in the next 2 days. For now I'm going to bed. Night.
