I was reading a book today about how a separation from parents can cause disturbances in a child's emotional instability.   Some psychologists used to argue that children's wards in hospitals were healthy, happy environments despite the fact that children would spend very long periods of time away from their parents.  Two psychologists Bowlby and ( Read more... )

no. it is never ok. the quote against bowly and robertson is the stupidest argument i've ever heard.

'he suffered, but look at the poems he made'. that's like saying, 'she died horribly, but it made for an awesome story', and so it's ok?

i don't know. there is the foil argument you can make.. without dark, there is no light.. but neither can people justifiably inflict pain to uphold that truth.

anyway, worthwhile art and literature is in the eye of the beholder, and it's kind of indicative of what kind of society we live in that we (mostly) only appreciate what arises from pain.
