I think you should tell him! He clearly finds it interesting instead of ~*oh my god ha ha look at the slashers they're so weird~*, so he'd probably be pretty stoked to be able to talk to you about it! I WOULD TOTALLY GO AS BACK UP, IF YOU SO DESIRE, BECAUSE THIS IS FASCINATING. XD

(I guess I'm weird 'cause I don't really see this stuff as as awkward/taboo as other people, haha. It's an interesting creative hobby/community that I'm proud to be a part of, idk! The fact that it's associated with porn and such does make it a little bit inappropriate to bring up in certain contexts, but this is a case where that doesn't apply.)

Oh, no, it's not so much the whole fandom/Wincest thing on its own that's freaking me out! I'm totally down with acknowledging that I'm in fandom and read fic and participate in the culture and such, because I'm totally proud of it too! What's skeeving me the hell out is how close this all is to the show itself. This dude's wife is FANGIRL BECKY. She clearly talked to him about this role, and just...it's way too close! IDK IDK :|

SIGH. I probably will end up telling him, though. *facepalm*

Haha, aw. <3 That's actually really cool to me, though! I'd always thought that it must've been pretty weird for that actress to play someone like that, esp. since she's, like, to an extent representative of the whole fanbase, so it's pretty awesome that she was in a position to know more about us than she could've been otherwise.

Well, yes. Clearly the universe would cave in on itself. (Or, worse, he'd want to discuss it with you. Which is just...yeah. YMMV.)

...HOW did I not realize Becky the Fangirl was in Ginger Snaps?

eeeeeeeeeeeesh. I am always so torn when the fandom and fanfic specifically thing comes up in class because there are SO VERY MANY different reasons out there for why people get into fandom and to what extent and what fandom-y things they get into. Fic, in particular, is in many ways an act of catharsis at its core and each person has their own catharsis they're trying to achieve and that's why they write/read the different fic they do and...and...*deep breath* Okay, I'll shut up & get over it now.

*hits self over the head with stupid, useless thesis* FML!

Aside from the meta-textual horror of the whole Becky thing, I'm actually already feeling pretty reassured as to how we're going to eventually deal with the whole fanfic thing. The literature he's had us read so far has been pretty comprehensive with talking about all the different ways people interact with fandom/fan-made materials, and he said himself this morning that he's really opposed to how often research can lean too heavily on certain psychoanalytical theories and thus tend to "pathologize" the fan as "sick" or "not right" for interacting with media in these ways. SO. The groundwork he's laid so far is promising, and I'm feeling more and more comfortable with the idea of eventually offering my own anecdotal experiences with fanfic/slashfic if need be. WE SHALL SEE.

DUDE! IDK what else to say about your situation.

GINGER SNAPS IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE MOVIES!!! I'M EXCITED YOU ARE ONE DEGREE AWAY FROM BRIGITTE! She was also on DaVinci's Inquest (fucking love that show).

Trust me, IDK what to say about it either :|

Ginger Snaps is SO GREAT. I wrote a paper a couple years ago on that whole trilogy, and had a blast doing it (although the films get progressively worse, sadly :/). And man, DaVinci's Inquest has always been one of those shows that I've felt very deeply that I need to watch, because it's homegrown and AWESOME (or so everyone tells me), but I never seem in the right mood for it. Maybe one day!
