Okay. You know how a chord generally has 3 notes? Like do-me-so or C-E-G [each interval being a 3rd C-E and E-G]... something like that? Well a 7th chord adds a fourth note. It becomes C-E-G-D The interval beween the bottom note and the top [in that case c - d ] is a 7th... that's why it's called a 7th. It tends to make a usually stable-sounding chord sound slightly unstable.... like it has to move somewhere... does that make sense? :'D it'd be easier if I could show you on a piano or something xD
