Wedding Bells?

Sep 11, 2007 21:30

Seems like every few weeks, or at least every month, I find out someone else got engaged.

I personally have my doubts about getting engaged (and married) as young as we are.  And I'm resigned (glad, as well) that it's not in my immediate future.

But I can't help being just a little jealous...

Me, too, even though I'm not dating anyone...

Why don't we talk more? :3

Personally, laugh at them. People our age shouldn't be caught up in such silly fantasies about how great marriage is (I blame dramatic television shows, but that's just me), or how they think they can survive on this planet being co-dependent airheads.
And honestly, the fantasy is about one thing-- the wedding day. And as far as I know, it's only one day! 24 hours! So if someone wants to commit to someone else JUST for the glorious idea of some huge, expensive, "Cinderella-like" spring wedding in June, let them.
I see too many starry-eyed brides-to-be at the flower shop spending all of their parents' (and in-laws') money on the biggest, most exotic floral arrangements-- and what for? What does it say about the bride? Materialistic bitch? I think so. (Also, the grooms are never to be found during these appointments. I think that says something about couples making decisions TOGETHER for THEIR wedding.)

My dear, just remember that we aren't the dumb ones. :)

case in point

on the whiteboard across the hall from me, someone wrote

"he proposed to me 2nite!"

Nicole and I were talking about this...

there's a push in this culture for the DAY of the wedding... the planning and the excitement of the day, etc. etc. but not as much on "THE REST OF YOUR LIFE" or even "A LONG LONG TIME"... there's often a lack of seriousness...

and not just for the (seemingly) very young

though there are people who can do it... and props to them!
