As depressed as I feel about making music, I still feel like there's no way I could ever give up, but I REALLY have to get out of this obsession with getting the approval of others.. (just writing that makes me feel dirty and ashamed ( Read more... )

Wanting at least a little bit of approval and appreciation for what you do is pretty much a very very common human characteristic. Some ego-basting(?) every now and then certainly gives you some adrenalin rush towards the future. Don't feel bad about it, you are human after all! And if you look at most of the famous artists (not just for music) you'll find that very few had your humility to admit that. Sorry, but I can't count the times I've read or seen how egocentric and egomaniacs some of the great artists were. And for as negative as that may sound, if it hadn't been for that focus on their own perfection and constant struggling and working towards that, I think we wouldn't have such beautiful art pieces! So, be bolt, your love for music shouldn't have compromises, even if people don't give you the right response, you know you can't stop working towards inproving, learning and getting to new frontiers. And that's what makes special your love for music! You know what I mean....it's too beautiful ( ... )

Thank you for the affirmation, the confirmation, and the support, that's all we all need once in a while, support, and from someone we don't "really know", hence there's no chance of ulterior motives and all that other stuff. Thanks, ~Shawn :-)

I think we often feel our passions are fruitless. It means so much to be validated, and know that the heart and soul you pour into your art, like any craftsman, is appreciated by others. I don't think there is any aspect in life where we don't look to other's for their words of encouragement or approval. The human condition calls us to be social, seeking out love in all ways. I think it is perfectly normal to feel the way you do. I often feel that way myself ( ... )

>>True, True, True... Thanks for reminding me, I do try to remember that some of the best and most creative are the ones that struggle the most (not that you have to struggle, but the always striving higher is a double edged sword ( ... )
